I agree in part to this perspective. I think the biggest miss in this is a separation of public and private behaviors. My issue with the boss analogy is there is an essence of public face vs private face that I think doesn't completely apply. "Paper" plates might not the best for everyday use but you definitely don't use it around company outside of a party setting. It's reminds me of the saying of "bring out the good china" when guest come over. Posting on the internet is a kine to inviting several strangers in your home at once. We are taught to show our best selves in public and glass/ceramic tableware is usually that.

I don't mind that it's fictional, we all learn from fiction and that's ok-- great, even. If anything I love the fact that Kendrick won because it shows that someone who has prioritised artistry over commercial success can also be championed. I also don't mind the bloodlust, to a certain degree. I think rap is a beautiful artform, and if for the sake of its survival, i think all this back and forth was worth it. So, I don't think we lost atleast, not for me. But thank you for your thoughtful critiques. Edit: I also love HOW Kendrick won. For the most part, it seems to me that the strategic release and creativity of "Meet the Grahams" is what swayed most people into Kendrick's camp. So, if anything, it feels like a W for the culture. Perhaps from this, more rappers will be encouraged to pursue cerebral rap with positive values instead of cosplaying (and maybe encouraging) the gangsta lifestyle.
